Robert S. DiPaola, M.D.
Robert S. DiPaola, M.D. is Director of the Cancer Institute
of New Jersey and Associate Dean of Oncology Programs at
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey -Robert Wood
Johnson Medical School. Dr. DiPaola is an active National
Institute of Health and Department of Defense funded
Investigator with a focus on translational research and
mechanisms of drug resistance in prostate cancer. His specific
area of research interest includes targeting apoptosis and
autophagy in cancer cells, both in the laboratory and in
clinical trials. Nationally, he was elected as the Eastern
Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Chair of the Genitourinary
Committee, which is responsible for the development of national
phase II and III clinical studies in Prostate, Renal, Bladder
and Testicular Cancer. Dr. DiPaola also serves as a full member on the National Cancer Institute's
Genitourinary Steering Committee, Investigational Drug Steering
Committee, and Clinical Oncology study section. He has also
served on several research and educational program committees
for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American
Association of Cancer Research, and the American Urologic
Association.
Dr. DiPaola received his medical education at the University of
Utah Medical School, completed an Internal Medicine residency at
Duke University Medical Center, and completed Oncology and
Hematology training at the University of Pennsylvania, where he
also trained in the laboratory of Dr. Alan Gewirtz.
